Development of Enterprise-Wide, Full Feature Corporate
University
|
| Background:
|
One
of the nation's largest investment and insurance companies
recognized the inefficiency of multiple training initiatives
scattered throughout the company. In order to create
a single enterprise-wide learning tool, it was necessary
to address the loyalty to those programs, a lack of
assigned funding, and each area’s individual training
needs. The company favored training options that fit
the learning needs of every employee at every level
and job role that was business aligned and cost-effective.
|
| Challenge: |
Multiple
training initiatives existed throughout the organization
without any one centralized forum. There was also a
widespread dedication to a popular training software
product. This independency bred redundancy, inconsistency,
lack of learning histories, and incompatible systems.
The client wanted to bring together all the disparate
training programs into one centralized service and
reporting structure with participation on a voluntary
basis, while showing a cost-benefit. Only a creative
and customized solution would unify the individual
businesses and overcome the lack of senior sponsorship
and funding.
The solution required self-service access to features
that encouraged business-related personal development
planning in cooperation with management. The provision
of a dynamic and diverse collection of learning opportunities
was required to fulfill learning objectives of each
individual regardless of learning style or need.
|
| Solution: |
DeSai
Learning was brought in to develop a corporate university
that was powerful enough to entice all business groups
into joining. It required a purpose of business performance
alignment to first attract individual business units
and provide an example to champion the individualized
business case.
Highly
creative and flexible development produced the Corporate
University with a hierarchy of separate colleges,
representing business units, under a main university
structure.
The
customization of individual colleges allowed the incorporation
of each unique initiative, while uniting them under
the central service. Change management methodologies
were used to identify businesses with a great need
for a comprehensive training management system. DeSai
Learning used creative problem solving to generate
a self-funding business model with these businesses.
|
| Benefits: |
The corporate university
is the main learning tool for employees enterprise-wide.
The mass enculturation is displayed in the leadership
team, which is driven by representatives from each business
unit. Under the central leadership of the university,
each business is free to pursue their individual training
initiatives, while sharing knowledge. The university
site continues to evolve with the addition of features
to enhance user experiences.
The elimination of multiple learning management systems,
volume purchasing of content, externalizing registration
and administration management, and externalizing vendor
negotiation and management combined into significant
cost savings.
