Dashboard – Management Development Program
|
| Background:
|
The
client represents critical-care hospitals and other
health-related member organizations, and provides advocacy
and service to its members including learning and development
support.
|
| Challenge: |
The
client had a group of dispersed, new Health Care managers
that needed to complete a specific program of learning.
Typical in hospital settings, the new managers were
individual contributors and had been quickly promoted
to management positions. They required basic management
skills to complement their technical skills. The program
required mandatory courses, as well as optional ones.
The ability to monitor learner activity and course completion
by both the learners and their supervisors was required.
|
| Solution: |
DeSai
assembled a group of geographically dispersed managers
to enhance management skills and capabilities. The cohort
met in-person and virtually throughout the 10 month
program. A Learning Dashboard was developed to guide
participants through core and elective program learning
events. The Dashboard also provided one-on-one e-mail
communication between students and the learning program
mentor, their supervisor and HR representative. Knowledge
management was supported through a shared library of
electronic resources as well as peer-to-peer collaboration.
|
| Benefits: |
The
dashboard was updated and is reused annually to support
new program learners. Dashboard functionality helps
students successfully enhance their management skill
and on-the-job performance. Formation of a collaborative
learning cohort creates contacts for the managers to
ask questions and discuss real-life challenges. |
