Enhancing Personal Performance

To maintain competitive advantage and support continuous improvement, organizations have a vested interest in enhancing the performance of each employee. As individuals, how do we enhance our contributions to become a top performer? One way is to commit to increasing our personal domain knowledge.

Our work responsibilities require us to be aware of many processes, tools and best practices. To meet performance expectations we must maintain our working knowledge of the processes and information we use everyday to do our jobs. To become a top performer we need to invest time to learn about new research, new approaches, trends and news that can impact the work we do.

Just a few years ago, business newsletters were printed and mailed to contacts. Today the ENewsletter, like this one, is common place. There is little value in outdated approaches. The article on Sarbanes-Oxley Act in this ENewsletter is an example of news that will impact many readers. Some will be required to take Sarbanes-Oxley training to ensure compliance with federal regulations, others will coordinate the training that must occur. For those not directly impacted by the Act, there is value in having a high level understanding of a new federal regulation aimed at business.

Staying abreast of new developments takes time and commitment. One approach is to set aside time each day to undertake research. Another is to receive email updates from various industry providers in your field. Staying current is an investment, enhancing performance is the payoff.
