Yale School of Management's New Curriculum
In an effort to keep pace with the realities of modern business management needs, the Yale School of
Management (SOM) is introducing a new curriculum. Today’s managers are expected to have a well-rounded
knowledge base and the ability to excel in multiple roles and disciplines.
The new curriculum is aimed at students aspiring to top leadership positions in business and government, and
become entrepreneurs of businesses that impact society. To meet real business needs, business executives and
recruiters were consulted along with the faculty and students.
The first year of the new curriculum takes the student through three (3) defined phases and includes:
-
Orientation to Management introduces the basics. Students are given the language, tools,
and methodologies needed during the rest of the curriculum.
-
Organizational Perspectives introduces functional management disciplines from the perspective of
questions concerning ethics, values, problem solving, engagement, and leadership.
-
Integrated Leadership Perspective presents complex cases, which present challenging scenarios from
various types of organizations.
Yale's new SOM curriculum is a powerful response to the changes the management
profession has seen over the last three (3) decades.
