SAVES
Initiative at the Maria Sánchez School
As
a principal supporter of the Prasanthi Center, DeSai Learning
enters its second year of a 10 year commitment to the Maria
Sánchez School (MSS) initiative to Advance Society
with Values, Education, and Services (SAVES Initiative).
This effort is part of DeSai’s commitment to HeartShip,
and building a culture that supports esteem, security, self-actualization,
individual faith journeys, making a difference, and personal
and professional integrity.
"We
are very excited about continuing to partner with Prasanthi
Center and the Sánchez school. The progress made
last year was mutually rewarding for the students, teachers,
the administrative staff, and everyone here at DeSai,”
states Jatin DeSai, CEO of DeSai Learning.
The
SAVES Initiative continues to strengthen with mounting school
enrichment projects arising from a growing partnership between
MSS and the business and medical communities, and government
agencies. SAVES encompasses six areas including: academics,
mental health and recreation, health, family support, school
readiness, and human values and character development.
Projects
planned for the coming year include:
- Third
annual Health Fair, which includes a series of health
related exhibits for all grades, and parents of every
student
- Character
Values training for six teachers and two support staff
to understand, practice, and promote basic human values
throughout the school
- Human
Values concepts integrated into the school’s discipline
plan, in-school suspension center, social services, after
school programs, and daily morning meetings, in which
all of the approximately 600 students participate in silent
sitting

Monthly Peace Train events that encourage the adoption
and practice of care among the students

School beautification day, scheduled in the spring, that
brings out scores of volunteers to make the school an
aesthetically beautiful place
- Dr.
Seuss birthday celebration with the reading of Dr. Seuss
stories by volunteers in the classrooms
-
Additional programs include a holiday celebration, a holiday
writing contest, a science fair, and the sixth grade graduation
ceremony
Together,
the involved participants of the SAVES Initiative continue
to make major contributions to the enrichment of MSS and
are focused on the future and to take the initiative into
the local community and the larger society.
