Corporate
University Concept Impacts on Municipality Sector
WEST
HARTFORD, CT - Corporate University, an Enterprise Learning
Automation (ELA) solution designed to align training
and development with line of business strategies, has
been embraced by the town of West Hartford. The extraordinary
employee information technology learning program, developed
by West Hartford and Bloomfield (CT)-based DeSai Systems,
allows the town's employee community to efficiently
respond to ongoing challenges presented by the ever-changing
face of information technology.
The
corporate university serves to better prepare municipalities
and their employees to overcome obstacles to progress
and to further enhance the level of service provided
to residents. The program is also expected to increase
employee retention by fostering the development of job
skills; reducing job administrative content; improving
alignment of information technology as it relates to
overall management strategies; and reducing operating
costs.
According
to Chris Johnson, director of administrative services
for West Hartford, the Corporate University approach
to employee training appeared to be the best available
and most efficient of those the Town reviewed. "We
like the multiple training methods that Corporate University
has to offer," he observed. "They give our
employees a good mix of learning options including instructor-led,
self-taught and private and public classes. We anticipate
that the program will expand our operational capability
while affecting reductions in the administrative cost
of employee training."
Jatin
DeSai, chief executive officer of DeSai Systems, points
out that the Corporate University focuses on change.
"It is designed to strengthen affected areas of
information technology," he notes. "When the
corporate university is established as a centralized,
in-house training and education facility, as it has
been in West Hartford, it provides a logical, low-cost
means through which to establish and maintain an internal
knowledge-enabled culture. We are confident that the
program will ultimately prove its value to municipalities
across the country."
West
Hartford unveiled its Corporate University program in
September of this year.
